This Homemade Tajín Chili Fruit Seasoning recipe is so easy to make and one of my all-time favorite ways to elevate my fresh fruit and cocktails!

At one point, just a few years back, if you checked my handbag you’d find: a wallet, chapstick, hair ties and miniature bottles of hot sauce and Tajin. I’ve liked spice ever since I was a kid and hot sauce and Tajin have been staple condiments of mine ever since. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve dined out and didn’t have my favorite hot sauce around or ordered fruit and didn’t have Tajin around, and the high level of sadness I experienced. Oooooff, that shit is real.


Although I no longer carry hot sauce in my purse (thanks to a good ole bottle leakage incident), not much else has changed. I still love my spice, and my mood still becomes somber when I’m about to eat without my fave hot sauce. But I will say, one major thing that has changed, are the products that I buy.

I’m trying to be more conscious of the products I consume, so I’ll reach for products with cleaner ingredients when possible. Many times I’ll even try to make these products myself so that I have control over what ingredients go into the final product. And with that, THIS CHILI FRUIT SEASONING RECIPE WAS BORN!

Much cleaner ingredients and less sodium than traditional Tajin, and you can even control the spice level to your liking. What’s even better is that this recipe gives you the flexibility to experiment, not only with the measurements listed here, but with different spices, different types of salts. Think smoked sea salt, think ground chile de arbol, think smoked paprika.

Love a good chili fruit seasoning sprinkled over your pineapple, watermelon and other fruits? Here’s a recipe that tastes like Tajín but with better-for-you ingredients! It’s also so insanely easy to make! Whip up a batch and keep this stored in your pantry for whenever you’re craving a healthy spicy and sweet snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 part pink Himalayan sea salt
  • 2 parts chili powder

Instructions

  1. Combine the salt and chili powder until thoroughly mixed, and that’s it. Create a larger batch and store this in your pantry!

Notes:

Adjust the salt and chili powder to your liking! If you like your seasoning saltier, add more salt. Want it spicier? Add more chili powder, and play around with the different chili powders you use!
